Year 6

      • Recognize and describe properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

      • Calculate the area and perimeter of shapes.

    6. Measurement:

      • Convert between units of measure.

      • Calculate volume and area, including using algebraic formulae.

    7. Statistics:

      • Interpret and construct pie charts and line graphs.

      • Calculate and interpret the mean as an average.

    1. Comprehension:

      • Understand and discuss a wide range of texts.

      • Make inferences and justify them with evidence from the text.

      • Summarize main ideas from more than one paragraph.

    2. Vocabulary Development:

      • Learn and use new vocabulary from reading.

      • Understand how language choices enhance meaning.

    3. Fluency:

      • Read aloud with expression, intonation, and awareness of the audience.

    4. Critical Thinking:

      • Evaluate authors’ language choices and their impact on the reader.

  • SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar)

    1. Spelling:

      • Use a range of spelling strategies for more complex words.

      • Learn and apply spelling patterns and rules.

    2. Punctuation:

      • Use punctuation to clarify meaning and avoid ambiguity.

      • Use colons, semi-colons, dashes, and hyphens correctly.

    3. Grammar:

      • Use passive voice, subjunctive forms, and formal/informal language as appropriate.

      • Recognize and use a variety of sentence structures.

      • Use cohesive devices to link ideas across paragraphs.

    4. Composition:

      • Plan, draft, and edit writing to improve coherence and accuracy.

      • Use different writing styles and structures for various purposes.

Year 5

    1. Comprehension:

      • Read a variety of genres with increasing comprehension.

      • Summarize the main ideas from multiple paragraphs.

      • Discuss and evaluate how authors use language, including figurative language.

    2. Vocabulary Development:

      • Learn new vocabulary and understand its use in context.

      • Use dictionaries to check meanings of words.

    3. Critical Thinking:

      • Distinguish between statements of fact and opinion.

      • Make comparisons within and across books.

    • Count forwards and backwards with positive and negative whole numbers.

Year 4

    1. Number and Place Value:

    2. Four Operations:

      • Add and subtract numbers with up to 4 digits using formal written methods.

      • Solve problems involving multiplying and adding.

    3. Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages:

      • Recognize and show, using diagrams, families of common equivalent fractions.

      • Count up and down in hundredths.

    4. Ratio and Proportion:

      • Understand and solve simple ratio and proportion problems.

    5. Geometry:

      • Identify lines of symmetry in 2D shapes.

      • Compare and classify geometric shapes, including quadrilaterals and triangles.

    6. Measurement:

      • Convert between different units of measure.

      • Measure and calculate the perimeter of a rectilinear figure.

    7. Statistics:

      • Interpret and present discrete and continuous data using appropriate graphical methods.

      1. Comprehension:

        • Read a variety of texts including fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.

        • Infer characters’ feelings, thoughts, and motives from their actions.

      • Solve problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value, and more complex addition and subtraction.

    3. Fractions:

      • Recognize, find, and write fractions of a discrete set of objects.

      • Recognize and use fractions as numbers.

    4. Geometry:

      • Recognize angles as a property of shape or a description of a turn.

      • Identify right angles, recognize that two right angles make a half-turn.

    5. Measurement:

      • Measure, compare, add, and subtract lengths, mass, volume/capacity.

      • Tell and write the time from an analogue clock.

    6. Statistics:

      • Interpret and present data using bar charts, pictograms, and tables.

  • Comprehension:

    • Develop positive attitudes to reading and understanding of texts.

    • Predict what might happen next from details stated and implied.

    • Identify main ideas drawn from a paragraph.

    1. Vocabulary Development:

      • Use dictionaries to check the meaning of words.

      • Discuss words and phrases that capture the reader’s interest.
